Total Communication Workshop

This 3 day course runs over three consecutive Fridays, 1st, 8th & 15th May 09.The course is suitable for anyone supporting children or adults with learning disabilities. The course content includes: • Early communication • Communication Dictionaries, Communication Passports, and Talking Mats. • Total Communication strategies including photos, symbols, signing, objects of reference (light tech AAC) and voice output communication aids (high tech AAC) • Intensive Interaction. • Understanding of spoken language • Practical implementation of Total Communication Course Leaders The course is facilitated by Alison Matthews and Helen Newman Specialist Speech and Language Therapists in the Learning Disability field. Cost Places cost £200 per person including lunch and refreshments. Implementation of the strategies outlined in the course can help to provide evidence to meet the following: CSCI National Minimum Standards for Care Homes for Adults aged 18-65: Standard 3.5, 3.8, 7.2, 7.4, 8.2, 11, 15.5, 18.1, 18.2, 18.8, 18.11, 32.1, 32.3 35.7. Valuing People objectives: 3, 7, 10, and 11. Key Actions: 4.2, 4.31, 6.3, 6.29, 6.30, 6.31 8.20, 8.21, 8.34, 8.42 National Autistic Society Autism Accreditation: • Core standards: 1, 2, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13. Specialist standards: 2, 3, 4. Bercow Review of Services for children and young people with SLC needs, 2.2. DSCF 2008. Removing Barriers to Achievement. 3.39. DFES 2004
